Running Out Of Road

Running Out Of Road

Driving on a homeward road the night was winterbound/Snow was covering the imperfections on the ground/A man in a white limousine looked like he might explode/He was running out of road

She was standing laughing-she had snowflakes in her hair/She said I think Mister we’re not going anywhere/Come on with me westwards until it’s not so cold/ Till we’re running out of road

From the back roads of Virginia to the western Texas plains/She said if we make it we’ll return and go again/Out in California we watched the breakers roll/ We were running out of road

Some say that the roads a friend-the road goes ever on/Some say it’s the cruellest teacher that they’ve ever known/Some say that a day will come when all the roads are closed/ We’ll be running

out of road

Took a trip to Canada across the border in the spring/There had been some changes/She had taken off her ring/Time for us to stop now and face the letting go/We were running out of road/Time for us to stop now and face the letting go/We were running out of road
